A Survey in Smart Arena is designed to collect feedback or insights from users by having them complete a series of questions about a certain topic. This course type is useful for understanding user satisfaction, gathering opinions on specific topics, or assessing the impact of previous training sessions.
To create a Survey, you need a set of well-defined survey questions, a clear purpose for the feedback you're gathering, and an understanding of how the results will be used to inform decisions or improvements. Once set up, the Survey course type provides an efficient way to gather structured responses from participants.
Survey as a course vs. a survey
The difference between a survey as a course and a survey as part of a course lies in their purpose and scope. A survey as a course is a standalone module focused entirely on collecting feedback or insights, often used to evaluate user satisfaction, gather opinions, or assess the impact of previous training.
In contrast, a survey as part of a course is integrated alongside instructional content, serving as a complementary tool to gather feedback, assess understanding, or improve the overall learning experience. Both approaches are effective depending on whether the goal is standalone data collection or enhancing a broader learning process.
Creating a Survey
To create a course in SmartArena in the form of a structured survey, there are 6 steps:
General
This initial step involves setting up the core information about the survey. Here you can:
Enter the survey title.
Provide a description of the survey.
Optionally, you may add a content image to visually represent the survey.
Define survey duration (availability).
The title, start and end date are required fields.
Click on step 2 to move on to user management.
Manage Users
In this step, you assign users to the survey. This can involve selecting specific individuals or groups within the organization who will have access to the course.
Use the Search bar to quickly find a user by typing their name.
Enroll users with the + Enroll users button, remove them using Remove users, or send messages with Send message.
Select users by checking the boxes next to their names or view individual details by clicking Details.
Click Next to proceed, Previous to go back, or Cancel to exit the process.
Survey
Here, you add a survey you have pre-created. See Survey creation.
Use the Pick button to select a survey you want to use from the list. Click on the +Add button to select a survey. Surveys need to be created separately under the Survey tab in the Content management section. See Survey creation.
Once you add the survey, questions list will appear.
Enable the Mandatory checkbox to make the survey a required step for course completion.
Click Next to proceed to the next step, Previous to return, or Cancel to exit the process. Click Create if you don't need to setup notifications, certificates and catalogue or plan on doing that later.
Notifications
This step involves configuring notifications for the survey. You can invite users to fill out the survey when they have viewed but not completed it. This step is optional.
Certificate
If the course includes a certificate of completion. You can preview, select or delete pre-created certificates, or create a new certificate template. This step is optional.
Course Catalogues
The final step allows you to organize the course within the appropriate catalog. This helps users locate the course in a structured catalog system, making it easier to find relevant training or educational materials within the organization. This step is optional.
Once you have filled in all needed information in every step of the survey creation, click Save to complete the process. The survey will be visible in the Course management tab under Course management.
